Ingredients
- 6 large eggs
- 1½ cups milk
- 1 tbsp pure vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp pure maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 pinch ground nutmeg
- 1 to 2 pinches salt
- 500g brioche loaf, sliced into
- 10cm strips (to fit the waffle stick grid)
- Maple syrup, for serving, preferably warmed
Preparation
- Put the eggs, milk, vanilla, maple syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt in a medium bowl. Whisk to fully combine and pour into a 23 x 33cm baking dish.
- Add the bread slices, turning so both sides are saturated.
- Allow to soak for 30 minutes.
- When ready to cook, preheat the waffle maker to setting 4. The waffle maker’s ready light will illuminate green to indicate it is ready to use.
- Place one soaked strip of the bread into each waffle stick section. Close the lid; the green indicator light will turn off. When the green indicator light turns on again, the French toast sticks are ready. Open the lid and carefully remove the French toast sticks.
- Repeat with remaining pieces.
- French toast sticks are best served straight from the waffle maker. (If not being consumed immediately, they can be
- kept warm in a single layer on a rack in a 90°C oven.)
