Soft Serve Ice Cream Melting

Swirl‑Spoilers: Don'ts to avoid

X Don’t substitute ingredients, as this will impact performance and texture

X Don’t use low-fat or low-sugar variations, as these are needed for structure and stability

X Don’t reduce the recipe size; store any leftovers in the freezer instead

X Don’t customise recipes until you are confident using the provided ones

X Don’t add mix-ins into the machine; add these as finishing touches

Why the Do’s and Don’ts Keep Your Cool Creations… Cool

Our kitchen team worked carefully to develop the perfect ratios for a consistent soft-serve swirl at home. Soft serve ice cream requires a precise balance of fat (from dairy), sugar, flavouring, and salt to achieve the correct texture and stability. This balance ensures the ice cream is smooth, cold, and firm enough to hold its shape when dispensed.

Unlike commercial soft serve, which often includes stabilisers and emulsifiers, these recipes are designed using accessible ingredients that can be found in your local supermarket. This allows you to create high-quality soft serve at home while knowing exactly what goes into your mixture.

Your Frost Fusion Questions, Answered

Why isn’t my ice cream coming out?

If your mixture is ready but not dispensing, pump the handle firmly. The machine will begin dispensing and the ice cream will start to flow.

My mixture is grainy – what should I do?

This usually means the sugar has not fully dissolved. Use a hand mixer to combine the ingredients thoroughly until the mixture is completely smooth before churning.

Can I customise the recipe?

It’s best to follow the provided recipes until you are confident using the machine. Once familiar, you can begin experimenting, but small changes can affect the final result.

Can I use low-fat or low-sugar alternatives?

Reducing fat or sugar will impact the texture and structure of the soft serve, often resulting in a softer or unstable swirl.

My mixture has frozen inside the unit. What should I do?

This usually means there isn’t enough sugar in the recipe, which causes the mixture to hard‑freeze instead of staying soft‑serve ready. To protect the machine and fix the issue, turn the unit off immediately, allow the mixture to thaw, and then dispense it fully.
